Biography

Born in Beirut, Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige work jointly as plastic artists and filmmakers.They have produced some short films, such as "Ramad (Ashes)" in 2003 and "Open the door, please" in 2007, documentaries such as "Khiam" in 2000, "El film el mafkoud (The lost film)" in 2003 or, in 2008, Khiam 2000-2007. They have also produced full-length feature films: "Al Bayt el zaher (Around the pink house)" in 1999, "A Perfect Day" in 2006. Their latest film is "Je veux voir (I want to see") of 2008, starring Catherine Deneuve and Rabih Mroué. It was presented in the Official selection at Cannes.These films have been selected in leading festivals, where they have received numerous prizes, and have been distributed commercially in numerous countries.The two artists have also created several photo and video installations and regularly exhibit in art centres, museums and galleries, both in one-man and in group exhibitions. Their work may be found both in prestigious private and public collections.Among their most recent one-man shows in 2009: "We could be heroes...just for one day" at the Musée d'art moderne de la ville de Paris, "Wonder Beirut" at the Centre de la photographie in Geneva, "Tels des oasis dans le désert" at the Festival d'Avignon, "I'm there even if you don't see me" at the Galerie Leonard et Bina Ellen, Montreal...They also teach – this year at the Fresnoy – and contribute to numerous publications.
